Bodily stewardship has been talked about for years, but when there's a mental division between body and spirit, with a focus on the spiritual as all-important---and the physical not important at all---many Christians end up treating the body as a shell. It's a theologically incorrect attitude, but who's into theology these days? Sad....David L. But with regards to "body acceptance" I think there is another side of the coin: "body stewardship".
While it is good to encourage people to be content with their bodies, there is also an epidemic of obesity and obesity related maladies - diabetes, heart disease, clogged arteries, etc., etc.
Perhaps, just as Satan has worked to convince us that the body is pornographic, he has also encouraged a style of eating, food production & delivery, and culture that produces sick bodies rather than the healthy bodies God desires for us.

Just as the devil laughs at us for treating God's very good bodies as pornographic, he laughs at us for making ourselves fat and sick.Jasenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17612368694261383142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002477094440121289.post-19410918364482545292017-10-19T11:26:50.466-07:002017-10-19T11:26:50.466-07:00Comfort with nudity is mental. I know from my own ...Comfort with nudity is mental. I know from my own experience, and from watching thousands of laboring women, that people quickly get used to being naked or seeing nakedness in a nonsexual situation. Sometimes in less than five minutes, it starts to feel fairly normal. The shock-value exploited in nudity is from its sexualization, but when the mind finally realizes that the body is not a sex object and that its nakedness is not a sexual event, that shock diminishes or disappears.

Women cannot control what goes on in a man's mind when he is looking at them. Even with their bodies covered head to toe, a man may be viewing them "through sexual lenses and not with purity." Because ordinary nudity itself displays no sexual intention, its frankness can actually short-circuit the imagination. But to facilitate that process, men and women both need to gain an new perspective on humanity's physical embodiment. This factor explains why I have been so motivated to write about the vices of a body-shame mentality and the virtues of a holy, God-honoring body acceptance.

I'm glad you are seeing how these principles do make sense. A growing number of women are rebelling against how they're exploited in our body-shame culture. I hope there's a way you can watch the EMBRACE video mentioned in the above blog article. It is secular, but the point it is making about body acceptance is theologically correct.David L. Glad you got it :)

And you're right, it's very difficult to get rid of body shame as that's what's become "normal" these days. Its especially hard when it is Christians the ones who hold those views! Your ideas probably sound heretical to most I know. I used to be a Jehovah's Witness a couple of years ago (though not baptized) and the "modesty" "nudity should only be seen between married couples" ideas are very strong there. I used to believe that too, and I probably still do (you can't just get over a belief like that overnight), but reading your website is making me question things. What you say makes sense!

I think the challenge with this idea of body acceptance you preach is a practical one. How can you make people feel comfortable with nudity again when everyone looks at it purely from a sexual perspective? How can I feel comfortable naked in front of a man when I know that there's a high probability he'll be looking at me through sexual lenses and not with purity? Its tough.

And awesome! I'll buy your book! Anything that can help me with this terrible addiction is worth reading.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17564733755764171422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002477094440121289.post-58684982954664467012017-10-15T15:24:39.058-07:002017-10-15T15:24:39.058-07:00Oledys (or Candy), thanks for signing my website g...Oledys (or Candy), thanks for signing my website guestbook and for commenting here. It truly is difficult for most people to make a break with a body shame mentality and adopt a holy, God-honoring body acceptance. I just published my 2nd book on body acceptance: "Who Said You Were Naked?". You can read about it on my website at http://pastordavidrn.com/files/WSYWN.html. In it I have compiled almost all I have written on this subject that was not in the appendices of my first book, Meeting at the River - A Tale of Naked Truth. My Tictail online store has signed copies of my books and some discounts. I would love to hear more of your story by email. Have you read, "Freedom for Porn-Addicted Women" yet? I edited it for inclusion in this last book, but it is online under my "End Porn Addiction" webpage. David L. I absolutely love your message of body acceptance! I really wish I could get to someone with your mindset, but in my country that seems impossible.

I admit I came upon your website as I was looking for help to deal with porn addiction (something which has sadly affected me for many years) and reading your explanations about how the porno-prudish view of the naked body fuels this addiction made so much sense to me! I always felt in my heart that there was nothing wrong about nudity, and I think now I can understand why!

I would love if you could point me to more material like yours, I really want to deepen my understanding of God's view of nudity.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17564733755764171422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002477094440121289.post-65976921468157630222017-08-05T16:00:10.546-07:002017-08-05T16:00:10.546-07:00That could well be. Like adjusting a signal on a radio until it is in stereo, God may be adjusting his children from the womb to youth to old age, honing in on what our resurrection body will ultimately be. But I confess when I see lines under my eyes, I sometimes use some moisturizer.Mike Mayfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17493087307974694843noreply@blogger.com
